Yosemite pt. 2: Bridalveil Falls & Vernal Falls

I'm not sure I mentioned in the last post how excited I was to be going to Yosemite, but I was so, so excited. So on Saturday morning, I woke the crew up super early to get ready and head down into Yosemite Valley. We were staying about 45min outside the park and I wanted to make hast while the sun shines!  Get ready for a long post and picture overload over the next few post.

Our first stop was Tunnel View and got to see the whole valley before us....simply breathtaking.
We started our day of hiking with the first waterfall. Bridalveil Falls trail.  This is an easy half mile round trip paved hike/walk to a lovely waterfall, which is the waterfall you see from Tunnel View.  The trail runs right next to the river so our kids weren't happy sticking to the paved area and had to climb all over the boulders leading the way.
Back in the car and headed into the valley, passing El Captain along the way.  Seriously , the pictures really don't do justice to the beauty.
We parked and started our next hike, Vernal Falls via the Mist Trail.  I'm not sure we knew what we were getting into with this hike, but we saw other people with kids heading up so off we went!  Luckily there was so much beauty all around us, it distracted us on how far we were actually going...
The first almost mile seemed to go fairly well, although some seep uphill climbing most of the way.  We stopped numerous times for snacks and resting...making friends with the squirrels along the way.  We got to the base and I thought that was it, time to turn around, but no....Young wanted to go all the way.  We loaded up on water and continued to head up

Our mile hike was slowing turning into two miles and becoming very steep.  Then we hit the rock steps up the falls.  Wow, a little scary.  We started up, being very careful but luckily Cameron was getting scared didn't want to go any further, whew!  I was secretly happy when she wanted to turn around but Timo wanted to keep going.  We sat at the base of the steps while Timo and Young ended up going all the way to the top of Vernal Falls!  What a brave little trooper he was!  They were both so wet when they got back down from the spray.  I have to admit, I was so happy to see those two faces coming down the trail...they were gone so long, I was starting to imagine the worst.
A little selfie at the top!  Looked like it was an amazing view.
Going down is always better than going up!  When it was all said and done, we had hiked the full 2.4 miles round trip to the top...well, Young and Timo did the full, Cameron and I probably did 2 miles.  Needless to say we were all starving after our 3 hour hike and were ready for lunch!
Stay tuned for the second half of our day....
