Walk-A-Thon/Last Day of Summer Session

The kids last day of summer session ended with the annual Walk-A-Thon.  It was tons of fun this year for parents and the kids.  All together, the school raised well over the budgeted amount!!
I volunteered this year at one of the corner snack tables.  We had to keep the kids well watered and well snacked.  Being that we live in a city, the walk was in blocks, not miles.  The kids walked around the whole block as many times as they could, getting stickers for each pass by.  As you can see, some kids were much more serious about going the distance than others.  Most kids, my two included, we just happy walking around, snacking, shaking their maracas and being with their friends.
There was a big cookout for lunch and the fire dept showed up with the big engine for the kids to climb on...but our class took a little too long at lunch and missed their tour spot!
And keeping with traidition, I had the kids a few little school gifts for making it through the first part of 1st Grade!  I learned from last year, you need at least two lunch boxes to make it through the year and get them all at the beginning b/c it's hard to find the cool ones in Febuary.  So they got a new lunchbox to save, some school supplies, journals, flash cards and each a new video game...as well as a few little nik naks.  Timo and Cameron were super excited!  To my surprise, the journals have been the biggest hit, they loving taking them everywhere to draw or write about their experiences.
We went out as a family for a fancy dinner to celebrate...we're so proud of Timo and Cameron and how much they are loving school!  I hope the excitement of learning lasts...
