Putting on the Pounds...we hope

As I mentioned before, Cameron is having some problems gaining weight. At her 1 year check up she had lost about 8oz so the doctor wanted to see her in a month just to check and make sure she is gaining weight. Well, that was last Friday and still no weight gain...she is hanging steady at 18lb 6oz. Otherwise she is a thriving, healthy little girl and the doctor is puzzled as to why she isn't gaining anything at all. We don't care what her actual weight is, she just needs to show signs of gaining. After calling in another pediatrician to examine her, they decided to put her on a high calorie, high fat diet for two weeks and then weigh her again. I have to write down everything she eats and how much she eats...then we meet with a nutritionist at the end of two weeks to check her and weigh her again. If at the end of two weeks she still hasn't gained, they will run a battery of test to see if there are some issues. So please pray for her...they think it might be something with her metabolism and that requires blood work to tell.

But it's good to be little Cameron right now. She is eating like a queen! We are to put butter and cheese on pastas, eggs, anything...lots of olive oil anywhere it can go, gravy on mashed potatoes, load her up with any type of full fat dairy, etc. She gets yummy smoothies in the afternoons, lots of fruit and unlimited amounts of snack food (Cheerios, gold fish, graham crackers). But I have to say, she just doesn't eat a large amount of food. She likes to play with her food more than eat it. The only time she likes to really eat is at restaurants or walking around the kitchen while I cook. She's a little social butterfly like that. Our doctor said to do whatever it takes over the next two weeks to get her to eat...so I feel some bad habits may be forming...

I have found one good way to get her to eat more...feeding herself! I got these little forks a week ago and decide to let the kids try to feed themselves. It works! I have to put the food on the fork for them but they can get it in their mouth...and they are so happy with themselves when they do! Cameron will eat and eat as long as I keep putting food on her fork. I guess we'll see if this works...let's hope we put an ounce or two on her by next week!!
