I think if you asked the kids, their highlight was riding the subway down to the tree. Traffic and parking are a nightmare so we always take public transportation downtown which is soooo easy and sooo much cheaper.
Once we were downtown the kids were totally overwhelmed with all the lights, noise and people. I kept telling them they had to hold our hands but Timo didn't even want to risk it...he wanted to be carried the whole time!
We had some time to kill so we did a little shopping and checking out the Macy's "adopt a pet" window.
I'm not sure what it was about the evening but the kids were on their best behavior. They stayed with us, walked in and out of stores without causing a problem and were an absolute delight at dinner. Of course it helped that the restaurant provided several activities to keep the kids entertained....books, crayons, silly sticks.
The tree lighting was going on while we were eating which was perfect timing. By the time were came out of the restaurant the crowds had cleared out a little, though still packed with people, and we could actually see the tree! It seemed in every direction there were magical Christmas lights and the kids were in wonder of it all...I love our family tradition!
The subway ride home was just as exciting for Timo and Cameron. Watching the trains go in and out of the station, the huge escalator ride down and up, seeing the metro police and of course, riding the train was almost as exciting as the giant Christmas tree! Ah, to be a kid again...Once we were downtown the kids were totally overwhelmed with all the lights, noise and people. I kept telling them they had to hold our hands but Timo didn't even want to risk it...he wanted to be carried the whole time!
