New House!

No, not a new house for us, a new house for my mom and dad in NC. As many of you know, my parents have been living in an RV camper for the past 13 years, living life on the road. They typically spend their summers in NC and have a few acres of land to park the RV and carry on life as if they were in one of their big fancy RV parks. But, as they get a little older, family gets a little older and the grandchildren get bigger and bigger, they decided it was time to "settle down" a bit and have a little more space. My dad decided on a smaller modular home that was fairly simple to build but gave them more room for the whole family to be under one roof. As luck would have it, the home was being build while we were there on vacation....it was like Disneyland for the kids!

The second morning we were there, we were awaken by the sounds of a huge crane hooking on to each piece of the house, readying to move it on it's foundation. We could barely hold Timo back...he bolted outside in his jammies as I chased after him with shoes and a jacket! He and Grandpa walked all around the site taking it all in...

The whole process took almost all day which was totally free entertainment! Snack and lunch were eaten outside in full view of the show...trying to figure it all out.
Even taking a little break, they found a spot where they wouldn't miss a single minute of the action.
The house was finally set in place and they got busy raising the roof while we got our first look inside...pretty nice!

Over the next few weeks they continued working and finishing the outside, inside, added a deck, sun room, front porch and carport. The whole process was super efficient...and fun to watch! And the construction workers were so great with the kids...letting them hammer on scrap pieces of wood, stack and unstack leftover bricks, find fun hiding places, and play in the HUGE bags of sand left over from setting the foundation... We really didn't need to plan any other activities for the rest of the summer vacation!
