Vacation Pit Stop

So we were all loaded up and on our way on our last minute Labor Day weekend vacation to Lake Tahoe...had it all planned out to leave at noon when the kids normally nap so they would sleep at least two hours of the 4 hour drive. Well, we all know what they say about the best made plans...

We ended up getting away later, more like 1pm. Cameron fell asleep right away but Timo was fighting it. He was so fussy and crying for about 45 min before he gave in and fell asleep...just in time for Cameron to wake up...Ugh! She was wide awake, eating a snack and playing happily, maybe having a little too much fun because her laughing woke Timo up. So now we have both kids awake, not well napped and 2 1/2 hours to go. Timo turned into a nightmare. He was screaming at the top of his lungs...I would liken it to a caged animal. Oh, the drama. Pulling on his seat straps, arching his back, twisting, turning...you name it. So we decided to make a little pit stop to get him out of the car to see if something was actually wrong with him.

We were just on the other side of Sacramento and were searching for a park or large empty parking lot to let him run around in. We spotted this mini mall and decided we could wait no longer. Once we got Timo out it took him a good 15min to calm down. We spotted the Lowes and headed straight for the light and door bell section....then wham! we saw this great race car buggy. Timo was in heaven!!! We pushed that car down every isle and every through every section of that store. What the heck, we were on vacation, right?

And then there was the forklift on the way out...at least 5mins looking at this.

It was a cool 104 degrees that day so we decided to duck into the Yogurtville shop, frozen yogurt by the pound, and get some cool refreshment. They had this great kids area with lots of toys. Yes! Another 20min here and we were set to get back on the road.

The kids were real troopers the remaining two hour drive. We looked at books, sang songs and the big new fun activity...played with stickers! Now we know the drive back will be at night when they SHOULD sleep the whole way....stay tuned...

Ugh, never do things work out the way you plan. A always fights sleeping in the car. Such a bad kid. Glad you found a way to snap them out of it. Hope they slept at bedtime!
