Peterson's Farm

I'm finally able to get a blog post done...ugh, this no computer is for the birds! Just get ready for when we have this issue resolved...I've got a backlog of activities to share you all!!

This is from two weeks ago, we went to a farm up in Petaluma called Peterson's Farm and Pumpkin Patch. We were so lucky the day we went, it was the only day this month they didn't have school groups coming, how lucky! We practically had the whole farm to ourselves...we got guided tours by all three farmers. Our first stop was feeding the chickens. Check out the size of this turkey!!
We stopped to see the bunnies but they weren't very hungry...or very social...
After feeding ducks and the horses, we came up to the cows. Timo absolutely loved the cows. He got so brave to let them eat from his hand but really enjoyed throwing the feed blocks more. He threw every single feed block in both 5gal buckets they gave us! Cameron was a little scared of the big cows, rightly so but was willing to reach out and pet the baby cow...only 3 months old!
One of the main products they make at the farm is honey. The kids loved watching the bees and the bee keeper was so great with the kids. He really took his time to explain all about the busy bees, queen bee, and honey making. Timo was totally into watching the bees.
Then it was time to head to the pumpkin patches. They had a few fields of pumpkins so I decided on the smaller one just to keep it more manageable. They had little wagons just the right size for the kids to load up a few small pumpkins and feel like they had a huge load.
One great thing about the small farms...their pumpkins are so cheap! Normally we don't buy pumpkins at the patch but they had great little sugar pie pumpkins (perfects for cooking) so I let the kids pick out a bunch to take home so I could make some pumpkin bread, muffins and some yummy raviolis! Cameron got a little carried away trying to pick up bigger and bigger pumpkins...sneaky little girl!
Timo had to stop and take a break with his heavy load...then it was time to head home! What a great morning on the farm!
