Museums of North Carolina

Being that my parents were having a house built while we were visiting, that alone provided enough entertainment for the kids, I didn't really need to plan many activities for them. But for the sake of the construction workers not having to answer Timo's questions every 2 minuets, I decided we would take a few outings to various museums in the area...and really, who doesn't LOVE museums!
One day was the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences...or as we call it, the dinosaur museum. The museum was free but not because of membership, but because all of NC state museums are free! I "heart" NC...
The Little Explorers Lab was lots of fun and just for for kids. They got to make spider webs, put giant puzzles together and explore with their new found favorite thing...binoculars!

It wasn't easy to get Timo to put the binoculars down and move on, but the promise of giant bugs did the trick...
Another museum was Marbles, the great children's museum in Raleigh. The best part for me was getting in free because it's affiliated with our children's museum here in SF that we are members of...so we got in free with our SF museum membership! But of course, the best part for the kids were all the activities...like surfing and playing hockey.
Cameron parked herself at the art table to make a flag. We never got the finished product...she got a little glue and scissor happy.
Our third big museum wasn't really a museum but almost...it was a visit to see Uncle Kevin at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base where he we works. My brother is an Maser Sargent in the Air Force and works on base. I thought it would be fun to take the kids out to see him, see all the jet planes and maybe get to see the HUGE refueling plan Kevin specializes in, the KC-135. (it refuels jet planes in mid air, so cool!) Uncle Kevin did not disappoint...we got clearance to go all the way out to Kevin's actual plane parked on the runway!!!
It was a big, steep climb up, but with a little help, Kevin hoisted the kids up and into the cockpit. This was the second time the twins had the opportunity to sit in a cockpit and again, they were overwhelmed by the enormity, they were too scared to sit down.
We caught a little glimpse of a few fighter jets flying over as we were checking out how big the wings were.
The air force base was by far the most exciting for the twins. I think it move Uncle Kevin up a few notches in the "cool uncle" category. Timo still talks about the air plane and now refers to one of his hot wheels toy planes as Uncle Kevin's plane.
