Because it was their birthday and Valentine's Day, I had packed a few extra little surprises for them open throughout the day, just to make things special. I had hoped to wait until the airplane to start but considering we had almost 3 hours till our flight, we started early. Timo got some mini Star Wars figures and Cameron got Tinkerbell Fairy figures. Having extra space to play was actually better than trying to do this on the airplane, so it worked out.
When we finally got to board, we were the first in line (Thanks to Young's United Status) and the first to board. We were talking about it being their birthday as we walked on the plane and the stewardess overheard us and began jumping with excitement. Somehow having a birthday on Valentine's Day AND being twins AND a boy and girl was more cuteness than she could handle! She told the pilots who then invited Timo and Cameron into the cockpit. After spending 3 hours watching planes come and go, the children had a lot of questions for the pilots...and the pilots were very gracious in answering each one. Thanks United pilots!
After reviewing our safety material and praying, we were ready to take off, finally! They both did amazingly on the flight. I knew they were older now and would probably do just fine, but flying alone with them still made me a little nervous. We did a lot of talking before hand about being good listeners, being obedient and having fun on our flight....and that's what happened. We passed the time with a few more birthday surprises (a new DVD) and Valentine Day gifts of fun snacks, stickers and coloring books. I'm was so proud of my 5 year olds! The gentleman sitting across the isle even complimented them on their good behavior...sweet!
We landed and Grandpa picked up us...no pics, sorry, it was too hectic trying to get them out, car seats in, pick up luggage from baggage claim, all while parked in the No Parking loading zone! But there were plenty of hugs once we got to the house and saw Granny! And Granny had put together a little celebration for Timo and Cameron...after all, it was still their birthday at 10pm at night. A little cake, balloons and gifts! Wow, new watches!! We worked on telling time the whole week we were there...good motivation!
By the time we opened gifts, had some cake, gave plenty of hugs and kisses, we were exhausted. The children crashed as did I (a whole big bed and they sleep right on top of each other). We needed our rest for busy days ahead of us...
